It is important to start getting your child proper dental care treatment for their newly-erupted teeth (which come at six months and one year of age).

As your child's teeth begin to surface around six months of age, your child's gums will probably feel sore and tender; you can help alleviate this discomfort by rubbing a clean finger or a cool, damp cloth across the gums (a teething ring would also be ideal).
When the teething stage has finished (around age three), your child will have a total of 20 primary teeth.
When your child's teeth starts coming in, you should be examining the teeth every couple weeks, looking for any discoloration or lines that could signal decay.
You should start brushing habits as soon as the first tooth arrives. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and a pea-sized amount of toothpaste; for children under the age of two, do not use a fluoride toothpaste before checking with your dentist.
For brushing habits, we recommend brushing at least two, if not three, times a day. Be sure to make brushing and other oral habits fun, so your child will be more motivated to practice a good oral hygiene routine.
It's important to also implement flossing into a oral hygiene routine early, but be sure to discuss with your dentist prior to adding this into your child's routine.
