The key to providing dental care for children is to make it fun for them, and to let them know you’re their friend.
When they need dental work, we find that good distraction techniques make it easiest on them, which is why we have TV screens in our treatment rooms!
Since our start in 1979, we believe in making going to the dentist fun!
If your children need checkups, we’d be happy to see them!
Physicians rarely look carefully in the mouth because they feel that’s the dentist’s territory. Many dentists feel that cancer is an issue for physicians. Here at Hylan Dental Care, we feel that screening for this deadly disease is important, and we do it at your checkups.

You should start taking your child to the dentist near their first birthday.
It is important to start getting your child proper dental care treatment for their newly-erupted teeth (which come at six months and one year of age).
Getting your child into the dentist early means they can start develop a comfort with their dentist early on and develop proper oral hygiene care habits.
You should take your child to the dentist at least every six months for routine dental cleanings and check-ups.
The pediatric dental treatments our dentists* provide at Hylan Dental Care are:
*Hylan Dental Care dentists are not formally Pediatric Dentists but we love to treat children; that being said, if your child requires an in-depth or specialized dental treatment, we will refer you to a local pediatric dentistry practice.
As your child's teeth begin to surface around six months of age, your child's gums will probably feel sore and tender; you can help alleviate this discomfort by rubbing a clean finger or a cool, damp cloth across the gums (a teething ring would also be ideal).
When the teething stage has finished (around age three), your child will have a total of 20 primary teeth.
When your child's teeth starts coming in, you should be examining the teeth every couple weeks, looking for any discoloration or lines that could signal decay.
You should start brushing habits as soon as the first tooth arrives. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and a pea-sized amount of toothpaste; for children under the age of two, do not use a fluoride toothpaste before checking with your dentist.
For brushing habits, we recommend brushing at least two, if not three, times a day. Be sure to make brushing and other oral habits fun, so your child will be more motivated to practice a good oral hygiene routine.
It's important to also implement flossing into a oral hygiene routine early, but be sure to discuss with your dentist prior to adding this into your child's routine.
If you notice any signs of dental decay, contact your pediatric dentist immediately!
