Has fear of the dentist caused you to put off needed treatment?

Do you have pain or sensitivity in your mouth? Are you embarrassed to smile?

What typically happens is a person has a little problem. They put off having it corrected because they are nervous. Their little problem turns into a bigger problem. Their anxiety increases! We get it. We take dental anxiety very, very seriously!

Fear of the dentist is a problem that affects millions of people.

Every day we see nervous or anxious patients. It’s what we do. Just about everybody qualifies for sedation dentistry.!

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation Dentistry is defined as "Pain Free Dentistry" done in a calm relaxing Environment.!

Some of the reasons people have sedation dentistry:

- Have you had a bad experience in the past?
- Are you nervous at the thought of seeing the dentist?
- Do you need a lot of work done?
- Are you hard to get numb?
- Do you have extremely sensitive teeth?
- Do you hate the sounds of a dental office?
- Do you want to have multiple procedures done in a longer appointment?
- Do you tend to gag when having dental work?!

Oral Sedation & Nitrous Oxide Sedation

At our office we use both oral sedation and nitrous oxide sedation!

What is Oral Sedation?

With oral sedation we give you a pill that will help you to relax.

We often prescribe two pills. You take one pill the night before your appointment so that you can get a good night's sleep. You take a second pill about an hour before your appointment.

*YOU MUST HAVE SOMEONE DRIVE YOU AND ACCOMPANY YOU TO YOUR APPOINTMENT. THEY ALSO MUST DRIVE YOU HOME.*

You will probably be drowsy the rest of the day.

What is Nitrous Oxide sedation?

Nitrous Oxide is a colorless gas that produces a feeling of relaxation when inhaled. Nitrous oxide is a combination of nitrogen and oxygen. Nitrogen is in the air we breathe.

When we use nitrous oxide sedation, we give you a tiny little mask or nosepiece that you put over your nose during your procedure. You breathe normally through your nose. Stress and tension leaves your body and you relax.

Why some people choose to have Nitrous Oxide Sedation.

One of the nice things about nitrous oxide sedation is that it wears off immediately at the end of your appointment.

When your procedure is completed, you breathe oxygen for a couple of minutes and all the nitrous oxide comes out of your system. You can drive home, go back to work or back to whatever you want to do.

Will I feel anything during my appointment?
- The technology of sedation dentistry allows even the most anxious patients to have a “Pain Free” dental experience.
- On rare occasions, some patients notice some pressure; But because they are sedated, they don’t really care.

Will I be totally asleep during my appointment?
- With oral sedation you may fall asleep, but you don’t have to sleep
- To be put totally asleep requires IV Sedation. We believe IV Sedation should be done in a hospital setting.
- With oral sedation we are able to ask you to open and close your mouth.
- We prefer oral sedation because we feel with patient cooperation we are able to get a superior end result.

How safe is Oral Sedation
- Oral sedation is extremely safe which is why we choose to offer it.

Is there an additional charge for sedation dentistry?
- Yes. There is an additional charge which can be determined at the time of your exam and consultation.
