Let’s face it… life happens. And often times, accidents and injuries simply can’t be avoided. Dental emergencies can happen to anyone — at any age, at anytime — whether from a fall, sports injury, car accident, or some other traumatic event.
When you suffer a dental emergency, you need a dentist you can count on. At Hylan Dental Care of Aurora, we understand dental emergencies can be frightening and often very painful. Quick treatment is almost always required to alleviate pain and to ensure the best possible outcome. That’s why we make room in our schedule to fit in unplanned emergency visits — and that means we will see you that day so you can get back to normal life and activities.
Types of Dental Emergencies
Toothache – Once an infected tooth begins to abscess, the pain can often subside. The tooth is still infected and it will continue to spread until you have it fixed.
Knocked out tooth – When a tooth is knocked out, there is still a possibility of saving it, but it needs to be put back within about half an hour. Pick up the tooth by the crown and place it in a moist (not dripping wet) rag or paper towel and come in immediately. Or, if you can put it back in the socket yourself after gently rinsing it off, or put it in a cup of milk and come right in, that will work, too.
Loose crown – If you lose a crown, call us immediately. If you have the crown, keep it safe until your appointment so that it can hopefully be re-cemented. Don’t put it off or the tooth may shift or sustain further damage.
Cracked or broken tooth – Fractures can be painless, but if the crack extends down into the root, it can be very painful. Call us as soon as you can as a root canal may be necessary.
If you have a dental emergency, we’re here to help. Don’t suffer in pain, instead, call our office if it’s during office hours and we’ll have you come in right away.
